ACT Superscore Calculator
Free ACT superscore calculator: combine your best English, Math and Reading from every ACT you've taken since September 2016.
- Follows ACT's superscore rules
- Legacy and Enhanced tests mix

Your ACT superscore
Enter English, Math and Reading from at least two tests to see your superscore.
Disclaimer: This is an estimate from the scores you enter, not an official superscore. ACT calculates your official superscore, and each college decides whether and how to use it. TutoringForAct.com isn't affiliated with ACT.
Check a college
Policies read from each college's admissions site on September 26, 2026. Ranges from the College Scorecard.
Disclaimer: Policies and score ranges can change between application cycles. Confirm on the college's own admissions site before you decide what to send. This isn't admissions advice and doesn't predict admission.
How to use this calculator
- Find the English, Math and Reading scores from each ACT you've taken since September 2016. Your MyACT account lists them.
- Enter one test per row. Science is optional; it only feeds your STEM superscore.
- Need more rows? Select Add another test (up to 6).
- Select Calculate my superscore. The "From" column shows which test each best score came from.
- Pick a college under Check a college to see whether it superscores, whether it requires scores, and where your number sits in its middle 50% range.
Only have raw answers from a practice test? Turn them into section scores first, then come back here.
How the ACT superscore works
A superscore takes your best score in each section, even when they come from different test dates, and averages them. ACT spells out the method: "Enhanced ACT: add English, math and reading, divide by 3."
- Rounding: the average rounds to the nearest whole number, with halves rounding up, the same rule ACT uses for a single-test Composite (ACT score guide).
- Science: it's not in the superscore Composite. Your best Science and best Math make a separate STEM superscore (ACT superscore FAQs).
- Who qualifies: "If you've taken the ACT more than once since September 2016, you're eligible to superscore" (ACT).
- ELA: ACT also reports an ELA superscore when you've taken Writing. It depends on a Writing conversion ACT doesn't publish (ACT Research R2400), so this calculator doesn't estimate it.
The rank shown with your result is ACT's national rank for a Composite of the same number (ACT national ranks). ACT doesn't publish separate ranks for superscores, and colleges compare superscores with their own admitted-student ranges.
Worked example
| Test | English | Math | Reading | Science | Composite |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Test 1 | 28 | 25 | 27 | 24 | 27 |
| Test 2 | 26 | 29 | 26 | 27 | 27 |
- Single tests: Test 1 averages 26.67 and Test 2 averages 27, so both are a 27 Composite.
- Superscore: best English 28 (Test 1), best Math 29 (Test 2), best Reading 27 (Test 1). (28 + 29 + 27) ÷ 3 = 28, the 91st national rank for a Composite of 28. That's 1 point more than either test alone.
- STEM superscore: (29 + 27) ÷ 2 = 28.
- Old four-section method: (28 + 29 + 27 + 27) ÷ 4 = 27.75, which rounds to 28. Shown for reference only.
- Next point: a 29 needs the best three to add up to 86. They add up to 84, so 2 more points in any one section gets there.
Legacy and Enhanced tests together
You can mix formats. ACT says your superscore draws on "your highest individual scores, no matter when you earned them," across both legacy and Enhanced tests (ACT). Your English, Math and Reading scores keep the same 1 to 36 scale either way.
ACT still lists the older method on its FAQ: "Legacy ACT: add English, math, reading and science, divide by 4." When you enter Science, the calculator shows that four-section figure as a muted reference line, because some older reports used it. The headline superscore always follows the current three-section rule. For more on what changed, see the Enhanced ACT explained.
Sending your superscore
You don't have to calculate or request a superscore yourself. ACT says it appears "as soon as scoring wraps on your second test" in your MyACT account, and you can "request reports right from your scores dashboard and pay by credit card" (ACT superscore FAQs).
Each college sets its own policy. ACT notes that "not every college superscores the ACT, but the number that do is growing," and that a school that doesn't superscore can still review the section scores in your report. Check each college's admissions page before deciding which scores to send. We've checked 60 colleges' official pages in colleges that superscore the ACT, and the Check a college box next to the calculator uses the same data. For a college that superscores, it compares your superscore with the range. For one that doesn't, it uses your best single test instead.

Frequently asked questions
Do colleges actually use ACT superscores?
Many do, but not all. ACT says not every college superscores the ACT, though the number that do is growing. A superscore report still includes your highest section scores, so a college that doesn't superscore can review them. Check each college's admissions site for its policy.
Does the ACT superscore include Science?
Not in the superscore Composite. ACT adds your best English, Math and Reading and divides by 3. Science is used with Math for a separate STEM superscore.
Can I combine legacy and Enhanced ACT scores?
Yes. ACT says your highest scores can come from both legacy and Enhanced test administrations, no matter when you earned them, as long as the tests were taken since September 2016.
How many times do I need to take the ACT to superscore?
At least twice. ACT says you're eligible to superscore if you've taken the ACT more than once since September 2016.
What is the highest possible ACT superscore?
36. It's averaged from section scores that each run from 1 to 36, so a 36 in English, Math and Reading, from any mix of tests, gives a 36 superscore.
Do Ivy League schools accept ACT superscores?
Policies differ from school to school and can change between admissions cycles. Check each college's admissions page for how it reads multiple ACT scores.
Is a 20 ACT superscore good?
A Composite of 20 is at the 63rd national rank in ACT's current table. ACT doesn't publish separate ranks for superscores, so compare a 20 with the admitted-student ranges at the colleges on your list.
How do I send my ACT superscore to colleges?
ACT calculates your superscore automatically once your second test is scored, and it appears in your MyACT account. ACT says you can request reports right from your scores dashboard and pay by credit card.

Rules last checked:
Cedrick Reese built the ACT Superscore Calculator for TutoringForAct.com from ACT's own superscore pages: the calculation method, the September 2016 eligibility rule and the Science exclusion are taken from ACT's wording, not from third-party guides. It uses the same rounding and national ranks table as the site's score calculator, and the worked example on this page was run through the calculator and checked by hand. The college check uses each college's superscore and testing policy as read from its own admissions site on September 26, 2026, and the 25th to 75th percentile ACT range from the U.S. Department of Education's College Scorecard; colleges that don't state a superscore policy are marked that way rather than guessed. The rules are rechecked against ACT's superscore FAQs whenever ACT changes its scoring and each time new national ranks are published, and college policies before each application cycle.
